Research Integrity Policy
Research integrity violations, how they are reviewed, and the sanctions that may follow.
This policy is part of the Submission Guidelines. It defines research integrity violations, the sanctions that may follow, and how alleged violations are reviewed.
Scope
This policy applies to authors and submissions to events organized by the conference organization, covering the same submissions and associated materials as the AI Usage Policy (see Scope).
Violations
Research integrity violations include, but are not limited to, the following.
General Violations
- Plagiarism: Presentation of another person’s work, ideas, text, or other material as one’s own without appropriate acknowledgment.
- Simultaneous or prior submission: Violation of applicable policies on simultaneous or prior submission, including presenting the same work at more than one Cross-AI event. Previously published work that meets the Previously Published Work Policy does not violate prior-submission policies.
- Fabricated or falsified content: Inclusion of fabricated or falsified information, data, experimental results, research findings, or references, whether generated by AI or otherwise (see AI-Related Violations).
AI-Related Violations
Violations of the AI Usage Policy are also research integrity violations: undisclosed substantive AI use, substantial unverified AI-generated content, and AI-generated fabricated or falsified content. See Unacceptable Practices in the AI Usage Policy for their definitions, and Exemptions for the routine language edits that are exempt.
Sanctions
Depending on the severity and nature of the violation, the conference may take one or more of the following actions:
- Reject the submission, with or without full review.
- Withdraw an acceptance or remove a contribution from the conference program or proceedings, subject to applicable publication procedures.
- Prohibit an author found responsible for a serious violation from submitting to events organized by the conference organization for up to two years:
- Duration and scope: Determined by the same factors used to assess the violation (see Review and Determination), together with any aggravating or mitigating circumstances.
- Start: The ban begins on the date specified in the final decision notice.
- Who it applies to: Individuals found responsible for the violation, based on each individual’s role; it does not automatically extend to every co-author.
Review and Determination
- Assessment: Alleged violations are assessed based on the available evidence, the nature and severity of the concern, and the individual’s role and responsibility.
- Rejection: Rejection of a submission, including desk rejection, may be decided through the conference’s regular review and desk-rejection procedures.
- Further sanctions: Withdrawal of an acceptance, removal from the program or proceedings, or a submission ban is imposed only after the violation has been substantiated through the conference’s established review procedures, and after the authors concerned have been given an appropriate opportunity to respond.
Relationship to Other Policies
This policy should be read together with the Desk Rejection Policy, the AI Usage Policy, and the Previously Published Work Policy.
Where a publisher or other event partner has applicable publication ethics or proceedings procedures, any withdrawal or removal of published material must also follow those procedures.
